About FTWW

We are the only patient and service user-led charity in Wales dedicated to achieving health equality for women, girls and people registered female at birth.

This page provides information about us, our vision, mission and more.

Fair Treatment for the Women of Wales became a registered charity (registered charity number 1191069) in 2020. We are also a Disabled People’s Organisation and a member of both the Wales Council for Voluntary Action and Disability Wales.

We support, inform, educate, and empower girls, women and those registered female at birth (AFAB) in Wales who are living with a range of health issues and who are not receiving adequate (or fair) treatment. As ‘experts by experience’, we and our growing team of volunteers, advocate for women’s healthcare needs locally, nationally, and at a UK-level.

Our vision

We want to see a Wales where everybody’s right to good health and wellbeing is respected and fulfilled, with everyone able to access the healthcare they need, when they need it, and without barriers.

Our mission

To eliminate health inequalities in Wales for women, girls and people registered female at birth.

Our values

We are ‘experts by experience’

As both a patient-led charity and disabled people’s organisation, everything we do is informed by lived experience. We understand the importance of co-production, and how sharing our community’s knowledge and experience can improve healthcare for everyone.

We are determined and fearless

When it comes to health equality, there is no compromise. Our volunteers, employees and trustees and supporters work tirelessly to help improve lives and we know that although we may be a small charity, we can have a big impact.

We are inclusive and supportive

We know that factors like race, colour, age, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation, being from a marginalised community or experiencing socio-economic disadvantage can contribute to people feeling ‘unheard’ when it comes to their health. We also understand that these issues can often overlap, creating even more barriers. We aim to listen, learn, support, and empower – and where we don’t have expertise, we’ll do our best to signpost.

We are human

People are at the centre of our work and we approach our conversations with those who are seeking help with compassion. This approach also extends to the activities we run.

What we do in Wales

p

Information

We ensure the people we support have access to information so that they can understand their health conditions better and know what services they need.

Empowerment

Through peer support we empower our members to gain confidence and be better equipped to manage and navigate their healthcare.

Advocacy

We bring policy makers and service providers together with experts by experience, to ensure female voices are heard and can influence positive change in health and public service design and delivery.

Our team

FTWW would not exist without our dedicated team of staff, trustees, volunteers and supporters.

Our impact in Wales
