{"id":3444,"date":"2019-07-18T17:25:23","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T16:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/?p=3444"},"modified":"2024-11-12T11:53:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-12T11:53:09","slug":"released-today-report-highlighting-lack-of-menopause-services-in-wales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ftww.org.uk\/cy\/2019\/07\/18\/released-today-report-highlighting-lack-of-menopause-services-in-wales\/","title":{"rendered":"Report out today sees Women in Wales calling for urgent improvements to Menopause Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In July 2018, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/about-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>FTWW<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>launched its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/menopausecampaign\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>#NotJustHotFlushes campaign<\/strong><\/span><\/a> to raise awareness of the healthcare issues being experienced by women going through menopause in Wales.<\/p>\n<p>The hash-tag was created in response to a petition for improved menopause care started by FTWW member, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/lisas-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>Lisa Nicholls<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, a petition which now includes over 1000 signatures, most with additional comments, and personal stories from across Wales.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the petition, FTWW\u2019s participation in the first-ever <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/join-us-at-waless-first-menopause-summit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>All-Wales Menopause Summit<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has enabled us to gather valuable evidence for our report, \u2018Making the Case for Better Menopause Services in Wales\u2019, a report we are excited to share with you now.<\/p>\n<p>The report aims to examine the current situation in Wales where menopause care is concerned, including:<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00b7<\/strong> the lack of consistent information and awareness of menopausal symptoms being encountered<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 the long-term health issues and costs incurred by a failure to provide gold-standard care<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00b7<\/strong> the need for more and easier access to personnel trained in menopause, including specialist clinics, and<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00b7<\/strong> the role of Public Health Wales in making something that will affect 52% of the population a key area for investment.<\/p>\n<p>Fundamentally, however, the report provides a whole host of lived experiences and commentary, as well as offering Welsh Government and the 7 health boards in Wales a range of solutions to the real-life issues being encountered by women across Wales who have gone through, or are currently going through, menopause.<\/p>\n<p>We hope to see positive action from Welsh Government on the back of this report and look forward to providing more updates in due course.<\/p>\n<p>View it in full here: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ftww.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/FTWW-Making-the-Case-for-Better-Menopause-Services-in-Wales-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>\u2018Making the Case for Better Menopause Services in Wales\u2019<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>To show your support, please sign and share <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #008000;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.change.org\/p\/vaughan-gething-improved-menopause-services-for-all-women-in-wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the petition<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, we would urge those affected to contact their AM and MP, asking them to write to Vaughan Gething, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Services, supporting the report\u2019s recommendations.
