FTWW x Period Dignity

We have been delivering more training on Period Dignity, covering the topics of menstrual health and wellbeing, period poverty, menopause, and the impact on education and employment. We were also delighted to deliver a ‘Lunch and Learn’ session with Welsh Government colleagues across all policy areas to share findings from the recently-concluded ‘SPPINN (Severe Period Pain Is Not Normal) Study.

Still unheard: Gynaecological Cancer improvements fall short

As one of the organisations that provided evidence to the Senedd inquiry — and as chair of the Women’s Health Wales Coalition — FTWW remains deeply concerned that women and people registered female at birth (AFAB) in Wales are still being let down by the Welsh Government’s lack of action on gynaecological cancer. Two years on from the Committee’s original recommendations, far too many remain undelivered, leaving unacceptable gaps in care, support, and timely diagnosis.

We were thrilled to attend the South Wales Menopause Community – MENOPT Event: ‘Shaping the Future of Menopause Support in Wales’ at the Senedd. Organised by Louise Herzog (Founder of MENOPT) and sponsored by Natasha Asghar MS, the event launched the South Wales Menopause Community Platform, a new regional initiative to bring more joined-up, inclusive menopause support across healthcare, workplaces and communities.

Long-time followers of FTWW will be aware that perinatal mental health is one of our campaign areas, led by our Champion, Nia, whose own experiences of postpartum psychosis led her to campaign for a unit close to home with Welsh language provision.

December was Disability History Month, which saw a number of landmark events to mark the achievements of disabled people – and to keep the fight for disabled people’s rights at the forefront.

We were absolutely thrilled to attend the launch of Women’s Health Research Wales (WHRW) on 17 December. To mark the first anniversary of the landmark Women’s Health Plan for Wales, First Minister Eluned Morgan and Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing Sarah Murphy met staff, researchers and the communities collaborating with them at Cardiff University’s SPARC.
