FTWW Volunteer and Community Coordinator, Louise, was delighted to be joined by our Volunteer Fibroids Champion, Carina, at the Healthy Lives Community Engagement event at Cardiff City Stadium earlier this month, focused on the ‘health, wellbeing, screening, immunisations and support services’ available in local communities.
The event was a collaboration between Muslim Doctors Cymru, Amanah Cymru, BBC Cymru Wales and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. Health professionals from different expertise were also there to provide health information for women and young girls from ethnic backgrounds.
The event successfully shone a spotlight on the many organisations working to improve the health and wellbeing of Black & Asian women across Cardiff and the Vale, providing a valuable opportunity for networking and building links across health, social care, third-sector organisations, charities and community groups.
There were some excellent panel discussions on menopause, pelvic health, periods and fertility, and cancer awareness, including Q&A sessions with the audience. BBC Cymru Wales recorded the panel talks (to be aired at a later date – we can’t wait!). Attendees also enjoyed workshops, plus a ‘young girls space’.
Louise and Carina showcased our work at the FTWW stand, connected with women from the community, answered questions and shared information and resources about how people can access support and become involved with our work.
Our huge thanks to the organisers for making us so welcome, and to Carina for her continued support and advocacy.
