Long-time followers of FTWW will be aware that perinatal mental health is one of our campaign areas, led by our Champion, Nia, whose own experiences of postpartum psychosis led her to campaign for a unit close to home with Welsh language provision.
We’re delighted to have joined Nia at the official launch of Seren Lodge, where she was invited to cut the ribbon (above). The hospital is a £7.5m single storey, eight bed building that is the first of its kind across Cheshire, Merseyside, and North Wales and will provide compassionate care for pregnant and postnatal women, who are experiencing severe mental ill-health. Importantly for patients in North Wales, Welsh language provision is at its heart.

“From [my] experience I have campaigned for a specialist hospital for the North Wales area since 2021. I have been lucky to be involved from the start of Seren Lodge, from the design of the building up until now. This means Mothers and their families will be able to access this service from North Wales, Cheshire and Merseyside.”
Well done to Nia and all involved in making this happen – we are immensely proud of you.
