As a disabled people’s organisation (DPO) FTWW understands and shares concerns being expressed by many disabled people and our community regarding recent proposals for welfare reform in the UK.
FTWW was founded in 2014 because of the additional barriers disabled and chronically ill women and people registered female at birth (AFAB) in Wales can face in trying to access healthcare and support.
Common themes of lack of specialist care, long diagnostic delays, and a lack of research data about health conditions that uniquely or disproportionately impact us can often result in our health deteriorating, leaving people unable to work / work full-time, sometimes without the resources and support they need.
FTWW will now be looking closely at the UK Government’s green paper and consultation, as well as the upcoming draft Disability Rights Action Plan from the Welsh Government, with the experiences, needs, and priorities of disabled women and people AFAB, and those living with fluctuating and non-visible health conditions firmly in mind. We remain committed to coproduction, and will work with our members to ensure their views, experiences, and expertise are represented in our responses.
In the meantime, please know that we are here to support our community as much as we can. If you are a woman or person registered female at birth, living and / or receiving healthcare in Wales, and you would like to join our peer-led community, you may do so here: facebook.com/groups/ftww.wales.
We also encourage people to write to their Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of the Senedd (MSes) to share your concerns and the impact these proposals may have on you / your loved ones.
